Prince Oscar of Sweden celebrates his eighth birthday today, March 2nd. The palace congratulates the son of Crown Princess Victoria (46) and Daniel of Sweden (50) with new pictures that can be seen on Instagram, among others. The photos of the prince “were taken by Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess” in the ski resort of Storlien while on vacation, the palace said.
In the two current pictures, the birthday child can be seen in the snow, with Oscar apparently digging a snow cave in a blue wool hat and winter jacket. According to Swedish media reports, his birthday is in the last days of his school holidays. Victoria and Daniel’s family apparently spent their free time doing winter sports. Prince Oscar is said to have been skiing since he was a toddler.
Prince Oscar was born on March 2, 2016 at Karolinska Hospital in Solna, near Stockholm. His grandfather, King Carl XVI. Gustaf (77) announced the next day that he had named his grandson Duke of Scania. Oscar’s prominent godparents include his aunt, Princess Madeleine of Sweden (41), the then Crown Prince and current King Frederik of Denmark (55) and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway (50).
Prince Oscar’s big sister, Princess Estelle, recently celebrated her birthday. She turned twelve on February 23rd. The Swedish royal family also published a photo and short video recordings on Instagram. They also show Estelle in the snow, skiing and cross-country skiing. Estelle is second in line to the Swedish throne behind her mother Victoria. Behind her is her younger brother Oscar. How he will spend his birthday is apparently not yet known.
