Christian Horner firmly believes that he will remain as team boss of the Formula 1 racing team Red Bull. “Absolutely, otherwise I wouldn’t be here,” said the 50-year-old Brit in the Sakhir paddock after the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The season in Saudi Arabia will continue next week. “My focus is on the team, my family and the races,” emphasized Horner, who has been in the public eye for weeks.
First, an employee accused him of inappropriate behavior. After an investigation by an independent lawyer, parent company Red Bull rejected the complaint. But then, before the Bahrain race, two emails with a link and files on the juicy matter reached selected media representatives, the other nine team bosses and also bosses of Formula 1 and the International Automobile Federation. Horner has always denied the allegations.
“Of course it wasn’t pleasant, this unwanted attention,” said Horner. He would not comment on what motives the person who did this might have had. It is still unclear who sent the emails and whether the content is genuine.
On race Saturday – due to the upcoming Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, the Grand Prix in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were brought forward by one day – Horner was accompanied by his wife Geri Halliwell when he arrived in the paddock. The two have been married since 2015.
“I have the support of an incredible family, an incredible wife, an incredible team and everyone on this team,” emphasized Horner. After three-time world champion Max Verstappen’s victory over his teammate Sergio Pérez, which gave Red Bull a perfect sporting start to the season, he received a kiss from his wife in front of the cameras.
