Ms. Ménardo, you have revolutionized the perfume market with an unusual scent: that of apple strudel. How did this come about? In the 1990s I was commissioned to develop a fragrance for Boss. Back then, heavy perfumes dominated the market. Business men wore double-breasted suits and smelled woody and bitter. I wanted to develop something new. Since I liked eating apple strudel, I thought of creating a perfume with apple, cinnamon and vanilla.

Ingredients that are more familiar from feminine scents. What were the reactions? The perfume wasn’t reminiscent of floral peach! I mixed the notes with musk and the scent of wood. So it didn’t smell feminine, but fresh.
