This is certainly not how Jemma and Sian Batchelor-Thomas imagined their wedding day: The couple was driven to the wedding in a police car. However, the two Englishwomen hadn’t done anything wrong on their big day. Rather, two policewomen proved to be saviors in need.

Jemma and Sian had stayed at a hotel with their 20 or so guests – all family and friends – and were planning to take a bus to the wedding venue. But just ten minutes after departure, the vehicle broke down and stopped. “The guests thought we were joking,” Jemma Batchelor-Thomas told the BBC. The bridal couple may have wished that it was all just for fun: “We only had half an hour to get to the registry office and we were still half an hour away.”

Luckily the police stepped in. “A member of the bridal party saw a police car and asked the policewomen if they could drive us,” reports Jemma Batchelor-Thomas. In fact, the policewomen offered themselves as a taxi and took the couple to their important appointment. A very unusual wedding car – and the picture that shows both in the patrol car and that the police published on Facebook should have a special place in the wedding album.

While her partner remained calm, she herself was “extremely stressed”, admitted Jemma Batchelor-Thomas: “I thought: That’s terrible.” In the meantime, however, she can smile about the whole matter. In fact, the two made it to their wedding in time – and even had a few minutes to catch their breath, police said. And all the guests only arrived shortly afterwards: helpful drivers had driven them to the celebration.
