The coronation of the British monarch Charles III. (74) also attracted many German TV viewers in front of the television on Saturday (May 6). As can be seen from official data from the AGF in cooperation with GfK, the first got the highest rating compared to other broadcasters that accompanied the spectacle.
The live broadcast from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. was watched by an average of 4.88 million viewers. The market share of the total audience was 42.6 percent. Only the ZDF thriller “Theresa Wolff – The Most Beautiful Day” in prime time achieved a higher reach with 5.93 million viewers on that day (market share was 23.8 percent).
Among the 14 to 49 year olds, Erste got around 890,000 people in front of the TV for its broadcast of the coronation ceremony. The market share was 35.6 percent. The head of the ARD studio in London Annette Dittert (60) reported on the show. In the studio, moderator Julia-Niharika Sen (56) and ARD royal house expert Leontine von Schmettow (60) commented on the ceremony with guests and experts.
As the industry magazine “DWDL” reports, the other stations with their special programs for the coronation were well behind the first. RTL came with the “Exclusive Special: King at last – Charles ascends the throne!” (from 9 a.m.) to 1.45 million viewers in the total audience (13 percent market share). Among 14- to 49-year-olds, the show was 0.30 million (12.1 percent market share).
Sat.1 showed “This is the crowning glory!” from 9:30 a.m., in the target group that was still enough for a market share of 10 percent (0.25 million viewers).
ZDF did not broadcast live and limited itself to a highlight special in the evening: “King Charles III. – Coronation in London” from 7:25 p.m. (3.15 million viewers, 15.3 percent market share of the total audience ).
