“What’s that?” asks Horst Lichter when he enters the studio and sees the unknown object that Sven Deutschmanek is examining. He then flips on a switch and lights up the bulb – which doesn’t particularly impress the moderator: “Wow, that really brings light,” he says. He still doesn’t understand what the meaning of the whole thing is supposed to be. He and Deutschmanek really make fun of it: “It’s like raclette, where you only have 1 meter 50 cables,” scoffs the expert.
Sven Deutschmanek reveals more details when Dennis Ulber and Eckhard Drozdz enter the studio. The young man and his stepfather want to part with the part, which the expert believes is a light stick from the Temde company in Detmold. It was probably a giveaway from the 1970s. Not very useful – but still very rare. Ulber would like 100 euros for it. That seems Deutschmanek a little too high, he doesn’t think more than 50 to 80 euros is possible.
The unknown object also provided amusement in the dealer’s room. “It might be a very early lightsaber,” jokes Fabian Kahl. “I’ve never seen that before,” laughs Markus Wildhagen, who swings the staff like a Jedi knight.
Wolfgang Pauritsch starts with 30 euros, the highest bid also comes from the Austrian. However, the mysterious object is not worth more than 50 euros to him. Dennis Ulber is now using his negotiating skills: “A little more would definitely work,” he says. “It’s so unique, I’m sure no one will see it again.” For 80 euros he would be willing to give it away.
In the end, both parties agree on 70 euros – and everyone is satisfied. Pauritsch has high hopes for his purchase: “I’ve done the best deals on this show so far with things I’ve never seen before and where I had no idea,” says the dealer. “I think it goes in that category.”
