It is considered one of the largest and best-known music festivals in the world: the Coachella festival started in California at the weekend. But the spectacle, which attracts countless celebrities and top-class acts every year, did not go off without a stir. “I’m admittedly not in the best mood,” wrote the musician Grimes on “X” (formerly Twitter) after her Coachella performance.

Elon Musk’s ex-girlfriend had to struggle with technical problems during her show and therefore freaked out on stage, cursing and shouting angrily into the microphone. On “X” she apologized and blamed her team. “I wanted to come back really strong and I usually take care of every aspect of my show,” Grimes said. This time she wanted to save time and not take care of everything herself.

She learned from this: “If you want it done right, do it yourself.” But then a bit of self-criticism came: “I probably should have pretended that everything was fine and involved the audience instead of spending an entire show slumped over the desk trying to fix software when actually should entertain.”

On the other hand, the mishap during Nelly Furtado’s performance was relatively harmless: the singer fell on stage and suffered a bloody thumb. Unlike Grimes, however, she didn’t let on during the show and took it with humor. “Kiss your husband… not the stage!” she joked on Instagram under a clip of the accident.

And anger was also channeled on another stage: The singer Kesha appeared unexpectedly at Renée Rapp’s performance and sang her hit “Tik Tok” from 2010. She changed a crucial line of text: Where it used to be “Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy” she sang to the Coachella audience: “I wake up in the morning and think: F*** P Diddy!” The new text was well received because several allegations of sexual violence have been made against the rapper in recent weeks and investigations are ongoing against him. He denies the allegations.

Next weekend the Coachella festival will take place for the second time – and there will certainly be cause for whispering topics again.
