After the gigantic success of her “The Eras” tour and the accompanying concert film, it was foreseeable that the new album by US singer Taylor Swift (34) would also hit her fans like a bomb. However, even the streaming service Spotify obviously didn’t expect that the bang when “The Tortured Poets Department” was released on April 19th would be so loud.
When Swift’s new work surpassed 200 million streams that Friday, Spotify was compelled to immediately announce this incredible record. Never before had an album received so many views in just one day – not even Taylor Swift herself, who had already set new streaming records in 2022 and 2023 with “Midnights” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”.
The following Saturday, Spotify had to correct itself again regarding this record report and announced updated figures. Since the numbers continued to rise steeply after the first report, the 300 million stream mark was even broken by midnight on April 19th.
“History made!” tweeted the company. “On April 19, 2024, Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ became the first album in Spotify history to have over 300 million streams in a single day.”
