Most know a pommel horse from physical education classes. In the expert room of “Bares for Rares” there is such a device that has been converted into a bench. Irina Ferring and Dennis Keller from Illingen in Saarland brought it with them.
Once a gymnast himself, Keller wanted to bring some flair to his apartment. He bought the horse online. It was always an eye-catcher when friends came to visit and always made people laugh, says the young man. But now it has to go: The room and the horse just didn’t fit together in terms of dimensions. His partner does not seem unhappy that the monster has to leave the apartment.
Horst Lichter immediately discovered the weak point in the piece of furniture: “The cover is new,” the moderator states. In fact, the fine leather has been replaced by an imitation leather cover.
This also has an effect on Detlev Kümmel’s rating. The expert first explains the origin of the word: Paschen, these are the handles on the horse. The object presented here dates from the 1970s.
Dennis Keller bought the pommel horse for 300 euros, and he wants to redeem that here too. Detlev Kümmel encourages him: Although the imitation leather reduces the value, the property is ready to live in, which is why he estimates the value at 400 to 500 euros. A nice surprise. “It was like an investment,” jokes Keller.
There is a big hello in the dealer’s room when Jan Čížek discovers the pommel horse. “Let’s ride,” he calls. Elke Velten-Tönnies is happy to do so, and so the two of them first sit down on the living room furniture.
Čížek has apparently tasted blood: He starts the auction with 100 euros. But the bids already stop at 150 euros. None of the dealers really know what the horse is worth. However, the amount offered is still a long way from the seller’s desired price. Keller refers to the significantly higher level of expertise.
Jan Čížek doesn’t give up: “What did you imagine,” he wants to know. When he hears the sum, he makes a suggestion: “You know what? You paid 300 – I’ll give you the 300.”
Dennis Keller hits it. So the deal still comes about and everyone is happy.
