Atletico Madrid confirmed on Monday afternoon what the sparrows had long been whistling from the rooftops: Antoine Griezmann, loaned from Barça, has been signed. The attacker has signed with the Rojiblancos until 2026.

Barça coach Xavi had already announced an agreement with Griezmann on Saturday. Atletico had secured a purchase option of 40 million euros in the loan deal, but did not want to raise this sum. Since the option would have taken effect automatically after a certain number of appearances of more than 30 minutes, Griezmann was usually only substituted on after the 60th minute this season.

Atletico and Barça were recently in dispute because of the clause. An early agreement has now been reached. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported, this is a transfer fee of 20 million euros, with which both clubs can apparently live.
