The Addams Family gets a new member in the second season of “Wednesday”. According to US media, this was confirmed by the actors of the first season of the successful series as part of the Netflix event Tudum. But the stars themselves do not know which character it is. This was revealed by Hunter Doohan (29), who embodies the sheriff’s son in the series.
The “Wednesday” actors around leading actress Jenna Ortega (20) gave their tips at the Netflix event as to which character from the Addams cosmos it could be. “I’d like to see Cousin Itt,” Ortega threw out. This is the all-hair cousin of Addams patriarch Gomez. He first appeared in 1965 in the first series about the Addams Family. In the comic strip template by Charles Addams (1912-1988) he was not there.
Ortega’s colleagues guessed that Granny, Wednesday’s grandmother, would appear. The character has been the mother of both Gomez and Morticia in previous incarnations of the Addams Family.
Another candidate would be Pubert Addams. Wednesday and Pugsley’s younger brother first appeared in the film ‘The Addams Family’ (1993). In the first season of “Wednesday” we only got to know her parents Gomez and Morticia, brother Pugsley and Uncle Fester in addition to the titular heroine.
The “Wednesday” stars also touched on a fan theory about season one at Tudum. It has been speculated that the murdered teacher Professor Weems might have survived. The shapeshifter may have ended up in the body of Addams’ butler Lurch. The color of his eyes eventually changed as the story progressed. “That makes sense,” mused Hunter Doohan. “If I don’t see their eyes go out, then technically it’s possible.” However, the story of season two is still so secret that not even the actors know it.
“Wednesday” started on November 23, 2022 on Netflix. The Addams Family spin-off immediately became a hype. The series was nominated for Best Comedy at the Golden Globes, and leading actress Jenna Ortega was also in the running. Netflix announced a second season back in January 2023.
