The US actor Treat Williams (“Hair”, “Everwood”) died after a motorcycle accident in the US state of Vermont. According to the police, a car on Monday afternoon (local time) probably collided with the 71-year-old’s machine when turning. Williams was flown to a hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead there. His longtime manager, Barry McPherson, confirmed the actor’s death, according to consistent media reports.
Williams broke into Hollywood in 1979 in the lead role of charismatic hippie George Berger in Milos Forman’s musical adaptation Hair. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Newcomer. Steven Spielberg got him in front of the camera for the comedy 1941 (1979), Sidney Lumet for the crime thriller Prince of the City (1981). Williams also starred opposite Robert De Niro in the gangster drama ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ (1984), director Sergio Leone’s last film. He has had other roles in the action comedy Miss Undercover (2005) and survival drama 127 Hours (2010).
Williams has appeared in numerous television productions. From 2002 to 2006 he played a widowed doctor who moves with his children from New York to a small town in Colorado on the family series “Everwood”.
Williams was married to actress Pam Van Sant since 1988 and the couple had two children.
