The third season of the award-winning series “The White Lotus” will be set in Thailand. This is reported by “Variety”, citing several sources. An official confirmation from the broadcaster HBO is still pending.
After the first season had played in Hawaii and the second in Sicily, a location in Asia was in the room early on. “The first season was about money, the second was about sex, and the third might be a satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality,” said showrunner Mike White, 52, in a video after the end from season two. “I have a feeling this could provide a rich backdrop for another round of ‘White Lotus’.”
Producer David Bernad recently took the same line with Deadline. We’ve tried to work in Asia a lot and hopefully season three will be our chance to do something there.”
More details are not fixed for the third edition of the social satire about visitors and operators of a posh luxury resort. The previous two seasons played in different hotels of the fictional chain The White Lotus. The cast was different in each round.
Only Jennifer Coolidge (61) was the only constant. The actress who played Stifler’s mom in the ‘American Pie’ movies made a comeback with her portrayal of the distraught Tanya. She won several awards for her role, including the Emmy and the Golden Globe.
“The White Lotus” was originally planned as a limited series in 2021. After the great success, however, it was extended as an anthology, each with a different cast and location.
In Germany, the celebrated tragic comedy was shown on Sky and its streaming service Wow.
