“Spaceman” with Adam Sandler in the lead role was announced three years ago, and now the long-awaited science fiction film seems to be slowly taking shape. Netflix has released a first teaser for “Spaceman,” which gives a foretaste of the “short story of a bohemian space flight.” And it shows an unusually serious and profound Sandler, the likes of which we have never seen before.
The actor is seen as an astronaut running through a green landscape. In the 24-second video he says: “Just like you, I escaped from my planet. Through galaxies, through black holes, through time. But then I found you.”
Netflix’s official synopsis reveals a little more. As it goes: “An astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious dust samples realizes that his life on Earth is in ruins.” That’s why he starts listening to the only voice that can help him save everything. What he doesn’t know is that the voice belongs to a “being from the beginning of time who is hidden in his spaceship.”
Sounds cryptic and it’s already clear that in the film it will be difficult to tell whether Sandler, as a lonely astronaut, is just losing his mind or is experiencing a real situation. In any case, the story is not a new one and is based on the novel by Jaroslav Kalfař, which in its original language is called “Spaceman of Bohemia”. The space adventure was staged by music video director Johan Renck, who was previously involved in productions for the hit series “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead”.
“Spaceman” starts on Netflix on March 1, 2024.
