If you want to see all the award-winning films from this year’s Oscars, you have to be prepared for a real television and cinema marathon. 13 films received one of the coveted awards, with “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and “Nothing New in the West” there were two clear winners who were awarded several prizes. The good news: You can already find many films on subscription with the streaming providers. The bad: “The Whale” of all things, for which Brendan Fraser won the award for best leading actor, is still a long way off in Germany.
The absolute winner of Oscar night is the fantasy comedy Everything Everywhere All At Once. The film received seven awards. It all begins in a run-down laundromat and ends in a hectic but extremely skillful film about parallel universes and unimagined powers.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is available for sale and rental on Apple TV, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video and Sky. The film is included with Sky Go and the Wow film subscription.
Four Oscars went to Germany for “Nothing New in the West”. The war drama tells the story of a young soldier in the First World War who, full of motivation and drive, goes to the front to fight for his country. He quickly realizes that military service on the western front is anything but a harmless adventure.

“The Whale” is about the severely overweight English professor Charlie, who tries to fight his grief with overeating. Brendan Fraser, who won the Oscar for best actor for it, stars in the lead role.
“The Whale” will be released in German cinemas at the end of April. The film is only available for purchase or rental on Amazon in the US.
Top Gun: Maverick won the Oscar for Best Audio. The film is the sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun and stars Tom Cruise, who sat in the fighter jet more than 30 years ago. “Maverick” is about an attack on military installations of a fictional rogue state.

The first part of the “Avatar” series was probably the best argument for 3D films in the cinema at the time. The second part also convinces with a great technology, which is why the film also received the Oscar for the best visual effects. The film takes place about ten years after the events of the first part and again the Na’vi have to defend themselves against exploitative people.
“Avatar 2: The Way of Water” is currently still in the cinemas and will gradually be available from the end of March on Amazon Prime Video and Disney. It is currently unknown whether the subscription start coincides with the start of sales.
The sequel to the successful first Black Panther film is about the battle for the so-called vibranium, which has allowed the Kingdom of Wakanda to be so technologically advanced. A new underwater race comes into play that has bad intentions for humanity. The film received the award for best costume design.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is available for purchase via Amazon and Co., but has also been part of the Disney subscription since the beginning of February.
The poison attack on the Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny caused an international sensation. The documentary of the same name is about the search for the truth behind the attack. “Navalny” received the Oscar for best documentary.

The best animated film this year is a classic – reinterpreted. Guillermo del Toro’s version is a stop-motion film set in 1930s fascist Italy.

The Indian production “RRR” received the Oscar for the best film song. “RRR” stands for “Rise Roar Revolt”. The film takes place when the United Kingdom is a colonial power in India – and it is time there to rebel.

“The Pronunciation” is based on the novel of the same name by Miriam Toews and tells the story of a group of women who belong to a Mennonite faith community. The women are determined to take action against the men of the community who keep raping them. The film won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
“The Debate” has been running in a few German cinemas since the beginning of February. It is still unclear when the film will go into home cinema distribution and whether it will end up with a streaming provider.
The three awards for the best short films this year were “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” (animated short film), “An Irish Goodbye” (short film) and “The Elephant Whisperers” (documentary short film). While “An Irish Goodbye” is only available via BBC iPlayer – and therefore not in Germany – you can watch “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse” via Apple TV and “The Elephant Whisperers” on Netflix.
