What do sport, sex and a love triangle have in common? They are all a challenge and really make you sweat. For “Spiderman” star Zendaya, all three challenges come together in the new film “Challengers”.
The new trailer for the feature film, which was produced by “Call Me by Your Name” director Luca Guadagnino, now shows whether and how she masters this. First of all: it will be dramatic, hot and wild.
In the role of professional tennis player Tashi, the Hollywood star finds herself in a dynamic love triangle during competition times with two tennis player friends, both of whom are obsessed with Tashi. However, the tennis player is not entirely innocent. As the trailer shows, she seduces her friends in a very dominant and determined way, while being equally unapproachable and cold. The consequences of their behavior become apparent years later when the three suddenly meet again…
“Challengers” takes place on two levels of time: the past – this is where the three of them first fall in love and get to know each other, the drama takes its course, and the present – here Tashi is now a trainer after she unexpectedly had to give up the sport due to a serious injury and with Art, one of the two men from their affair at the time. But Patrick (the other lover) also still has feelings for Tashi – and in a decisive tennis match between Art and Patrick, the situation no longer seems to escalate only on the court.
Zendaya, who has increasingly wanted to shed her image as a former “Disney” star since her role in the scandal series “Euphoria”, shows herself in “Challengers” from an unusually dominant and erotic side. And this is exactly what is freaking out fans at the moment. The trailer for “Challengers” has been hyped on social media ever since it was released.

Joining Zendaya are Mike Faist, best known for Spielberg’s reinterpretation of West Side Story, and Josh O’Connor, Emmy-winning actor for his role as a young Prince Charles in The Crown.
“Challengers” will be released in German cinemas on September 14, 2023.
