The tenth season of “Sing my song – the exchange concert” (8:15 p.m. on VOX and RTL) starts today, Tuesday (April 25). Johannes Oerding (41) is hosting the music show for the third time. For the tenth anniversary of the show, the host welcomes Silbermond frontwoman Stefanie Kloß (38), singer-songwriter LEA (30), singer and songwriter Clueso (43), chart-topper Nico Santos (30), songwriter and rapper Montez (29) and actress and Indie pop singer Alli Neumann (28).

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Oerding reveals what he appreciates about the emotional music show and what he can learn from the other artists. He also talks about what he likes about solitude and whether he can imagine taking a break from the music business.

Johannes Oerding: Well, at least they haven’t found another one yet. No, seriously, I think I just bring the right interest in artists’ biographies, a colorful musical background, my own experience in the music industry and fun with cozy couch groups.

Oerding: You are inspired by every artist and you learn from their experiences. For example, how to deal with being nervous on stage, with pressure to perform and deadlines, or in general with the growing public.

Oerding: Elif performed my song “Alles brennt” and moved me deeply, but I also saved Michael Patrick Kelly’s version of “Heimat” as “very touching”.

Oerding: Of course, the creators of the show always involve me. That makes sense because I’ve been in the music business for 20 years and have a large network. I know many artists and have already made them hot for the show on the short official route.

Oerding: That will probably never succeed, because there are simply too many genres and sub-genres for that. However, we try to cover the most popular sounds like hip hop, pop, rock and metal.

However, no one knows what will happen on the spot. We experienced jazz versions, heard swing or blues sounds or sometimes the full electronic board. Everything is allowed.

Oerding: South Africa is a good decision. No rain for the outdoor shoots and atmospheric images. The nature resort is beautifully secluded so that we are alone and no one is distracted.

I always like to stick around for a few days. Either to continue working straight away, to explore the country or simply not to be available.

Oerding: I feel like I’m still in contact with everyone and friendships have developed. I write music with Clueso and Wincent Weiss, with some there are festival and concert features. Overall we all have our WhatsApp groups and keep each other updated. This is actually the greatest gift of the show.

Oerding: After-show parties are usually only really possible at the end of the entire shooting, because we are really busy with the production from morning to night. At the very end, however, everyone hugs and the whole team and many local helpers usually celebrate until sunrise to South African music.

Oerding: Actually just the fact that this format has been around for so long and the viewers seem to like it. There would be something missing from the TV, I think. This season also features repeat offenders for the first time.

Oerding: The format is authentic, not scripted and only slightly edited. It’s just real and viewers feel that. You connect with “your” stars and realize that they’re just people with the same problems as everyone else. It connects and you are not alone. Of course also the new music that is being created and the exciting life stories and destinies.

Oerding: As long as I am asked and as long as I have the feeling that I have not been “selected”. Either way, it has enriched my life incredibly and I would do it again and again.

Oerding: Absolutely. Home games are always special. Friends, family and the strict co-workers come around and it makes you antsy.

Oerding: Then I don’t need big action anymore. I like the solitude or sport to compensate. Football, tennis, running and a little pumping. But I also like going to concerts by other artists. Because you learn something there too and are inspired.

Oerding: Lots of sport and when things get really bad, I write everything down in a song (laughs).

Oerding: The Open Air Tour is just around the corner with 22 dates and nothing else is planned for the time being. Maybe a break!
