Trial runs on the 4.5 km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar RRTS station are set to commence today, marking a significant milestone in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor project. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is spearheading the ambitious initiative, with the Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station in Delhi nearing completion while work on the remaining three stations in Meerut is in its final stages.
Namo Bharat trains, currently operational between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South, cover 55 km and 11 stations along the corridor. As the project progresses, the focus is now on the critical 4.5 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar, which is poised to undergo trial runs starting on Sunday, according to a statement from an NCRTC official.
### A Glimpse into the Future
The upcoming trial runs signify a major step forward in the commissioning of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, with the Sarai Kale Khan station serving as the designated starting point for the corridor. Notably, the station has seen significant progress in various key areas, such as the construction of the station facade, installation of platform screen doors, and the completion of finishing work for entry-exit structures.
Moreover, structural work on the foot-over bridge linking Sarai Kale Khan Station to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station has reached an advanced stage, with the installation of all six travellators enhancing connectivity between the two key transportation hubs. As preparations intensify, the NCRTC plans to remove barricades from the road leading to the railway station, paving the way for improved accessibility for commuters.
### Connecting Communities
With plans to establish Sarai Kale Khan as a central transportation hub, the station’s strategic location will facilitate seamless connectivity with the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and Veer Haqiqat Rai ISBT. This integration aims to enhance commuter experience and streamline travel across different modes of transport, underscoring the corridor’s role in bolstering regional connectivity.
Looking ahead, the NCRTC is making significant headway on the corridor section beyond Meerut South, where trial runs between Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar are progressing smoothly. The corridor’s expansion encompasses three additional Namo Bharat stations—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—each nearing completion in terms of civil construction and finishing touches.
In essence, the journey toward operationalizing the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor is gaining momentum, with each milestone bringing the vision of efficient, interconnected urban mobility closer to reality. As the project unfolds, the collaborative efforts of stakeholders, alongside innovative engineering solutions, are poised to transform the region’s transportation landscape, heralding a new era of sustainable, accessible transit options for residents and visitors alike.
