New Delhi Municipal Council Transforms Navyug School into a Model Institute
New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has embarked on an ambitious project to elevate its schools to model institutes by enhancing their facilities. The initiative is long overdue and aims to provide students with a conducive environment for learning. One of the schools set to undergo a significant transformation is Navyug School on Pandara Road, which received a visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 2nd last year.
The comprehensive improvement plan for Navyug School includes the construction of a fully air-conditioned multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 100-150, a conference room, and additional classrooms on each floor. According to NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal, the project will also involve the installation of new staircases, upgraded toilet and drinking water facilities, and the renovation of entrance and lawn areas. Similar upgrades are planned for the Sarojini Nagar school in the future.
Enhancing both functionality and aesthetics, the building will feature a newly designed corridor with a modern look. The multipurpose hall will be equipped with an audio-visual facility and a public announcement system to facilitate smooth organization of interactions and events. Additionally, two more classrooms on each floor will cater to the growing educational needs of students. Chahal mentioned that a toilet complex will be added on the ground floor, and the playground will be upgraded to create a safe and engaging space for recreational activities.
The civil department will oversee the construction works, while the horticulture department will be responsible for plantation and beautification efforts on the campus. This dual approach aims to promote a greener and more welcoming environment for students and faculty alike. To complement the overall infrastructure development, the building’s facade will undergo improvements to give it a fresh and contemporary appearance, enhancing the overall appeal of the school.
Notably, many dignitaries who are alumni of Navyug School have actively contributed ideas and assisted in fundraising for the project. Chahal emphasized that the finalization of works was based on specific requirements, area availability, staff suggestions, and discussions on the essential features of a model school.
An NDMC official revealed that the design for the school’s overall upgrade was proposed, with various departments such as civil, electrical, IT, and education collaborating to ensure the successful implementation of the project. Currently, the estimation process is underway, with sources indicating that the project is expected to cost around Rs 10 crore.
