In a recent development in Dwarka, New Delhi, parents of students attending a private school have raised serious concerns about the treatment of their children. These parents claim that their children were subjected to public humiliation and isolation due to their families’ refusal to comply with what they deemed an unfair and unlawful fee hike imposed by the school.
According to reports from parents of students at DPS Dwarka, those who did not pay the increased fees were forcibly removed from regular classes. Instead of participating in their usual lessons alongside their peers, these students were relegated to the library and prohibited from interacting with other classmates. Even basic necessities like restroom breaks and access to water were closely monitored for these children, leading to feelings of being treated like criminals, as one parent described.
The emotional impact on the children was profound, with many returning home in tears, too distressed to focus on their studies or rest properly. The distress caused by these incidents also led to a sense of dread about attending school among some students. Despite attempts to reach out to the school’s leadership and administration, parents reported receiving no response to their concerns.
In response to these troubling events, a group of parents, identifying themselves as DPS Dwarka Aggrieved Parents, held a press conference to not only shed light on the suffering their children endured but also to highlight what they perceived as a systemic failure. Their demands were clear: they called for a thorough investigation into the matter, accountability from those responsible, and an immediate end to what they termed as “emotional abuse and unlawful confinement” of the students.
Specifically, the parents insisted on the prompt release of the investigative findings compiled by a team from the district magistrate’s office, acting under the direction of the education directorate. This report was said to detail an incident where students were allegedly held against their will in the school library and subjected to psychological distress.
Additionally, the parents urged for the identification of any government or non-government officials who were found complicit or negligent in this situation, holding them answerable for the harm inflicted on the students. They sought transparency regarding how the DPS Society violated the children’s constitutional right to education and pressed for clarity on the actions taken by governmental and administrative bodies in response to these grave allegations.
