The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken a significant step towards addressing this problem by deciding to acquire four super sucker machines. Procuring Essential Equipment
The MCD has already initiated the process for acquiring two super sucker machines, with plans to tender for two more in the coming week. As explained by an MCD official, the need for these machines arises from the limitations faced in maintaining drains deeper than 4ft, which are typically handled by external agencies. By having their own machinery, the MCD can ensure timely cleaning of drains as needed, without relying on external resources.
The two machines that have been approved cost less than Rs 5 crore each and are being funded through CSR funds. With the addition of these machines, the total number of super sucker units will rise to 10, adequately catering to the needs of the 12 municipal zones in the city.

The 2025-26 budget presentation outlined plans to purchase 14 truck-mounted mechanical road sweeping machines equipped with dust containers. However, this project is pending approval from the standing committee, delaying the tendering process until further clarification is obtained.
MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar emphasized the importance of investing in advanced equipment like road sweepers and super sucker units in his budget speech. The sanitation sector has received a substantial allocation of 29% of the total budget, signaling a strong commitment towards improving waste collection and processing systems. This marks a significant increase from the previous budget, where only 25.1% was allocated for sanitation initiatives.
