So, the U.S. Supreme Court just said, “Hold up, wait a minute!” and stopped the whole removal situation of Venezuelan detainees accused of gang affiliations under some wartime law. The ACLU was like, “Hey, they might end up in a sketchy El Salvadoran prison, so let’s pump the brakes on this whole thing.” And the Court was like, “Cool, nobody’s going anywhere until we figure this out.”
But then, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito were like, “Nah, we don’t agree with this,” and dissented. So, it’s a whole mess right now. The Court is basically telling the Trump administration, “We don’t trust you to play by the rules when it comes to deporting folks without giving them a fair shot.”
The ACLU was all over this on Friday, telling the courts to stop the removals ’cause the Trump folks were apparently getting ready to ship these detainees off to who knows where. And the DOJ lawyer was like, “Oh, no plans to deport anyone by plane…yet.” But they were definitely keeping that option open.
So, these Venezuelan dudes from all over the place were suddenly shipped to this detention center in Texas and told they were gonna be outta there real soon. And families were like, “Hold up, my dude isn’t a gang member, what’s going on here?” It’s like a soap opera unfolding in real life.
And then, the Court was like, “Okay, you can deport them, but at least give ’em a chance to plead their case.” But surprise, surprise, planes were already on their way to El Salvador with these folks on board. And the Trump team was like, “Well, once they’re out of our jurisdiction, tough luck.”
Trump even had a little meeting with the Salvadoran president, and they were all like, “Ha! Can’t do anything about it now!” The ACLU is freaking out, saying, “This is a clear violation of the Court’s orders!” It’s a real showdown between the government and the law right now.
The whole thing started in a Texas court, where the ACLU was like, “Hold on, let’s stop this madness.” But the judge was like, “Nah, we’re good.” And then more detainees showed up, and it was like, “Round two, fight!” They had to call in the big guns at the Supreme Court to get this mess sorted out.
