It never seems to be too late to wish you Happy New Year, as a recent example from Kate and William proves. A Royal fan wrote them a Christmas card, now, a good three months later, there was finally an answer.
“What a nice surprise this morning,” Instagram user “theduchessofwonderland” wrote under her post. Pictured is a white envelope with various stamps: King Charles’ monogram, a Royal Mail stamp and the date 29/03/23, presumably the day the letter was posted.
On the envelope is the card, which shows Princess Kate in a forest green coat and hat. Prince William and the two sons wear dark blue jackets and the little princess shines in a red coat.
Centrally placed printed text on the back reads: “Thank you for your tactful Christmas message to the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Their Royal Highnesses are very grateful and send you best wishes for a Happy Holiday new Year.”
The picture comes from a very special moment: The royals can be seen walking to the Christmas service in Sandringham. It was a first for Prince Louis, as he had never been to the public Christmas celebrations before.
He delighted fans and photographers alike: Despite the wintry temperatures, he only wore red shorts under his coat, and his bare legs were in calf-high boots. With his cheeky grin he smiled at everyone, not a trace of freezing. The shorts are a tradition of the British upper class: Little boys wear shorts up to the age of eight, and that was also the case with George.
Royal fans can look forward to the next appearance: at the coronation of King Charles III. should little Louis be seen again.
