Rock legend Rod Stewart (78) is a father of eight and is proud of each of his children. In a new interview with luxury lifestyle magazine Haute Living, he spoke about how happy he was that all of his sons and daughters had turned out so well.

Stewart also admitted that he wasn’t particularly strict as a father compared to his own parents. Speaking to the magazine, he said: “I don’t think I’m as strict with my children as my mother and father – especially my father.” In his opinion, this had a positive impact on his children’s development.

“I’m very lenient with them,” said Rod Stewart. “No one got into serious trouble. A couple got involved with drugs but that’s over now. I’m very proud of them all.” What he appreciates most is being able to be with his family again after long trips: he misses his family “so much” when he is on the road, said the 78-year-old. Being with his loved ones is “a wonderful luxury” when he comes home.

Rod Stewart has his eldest daughter Sarah (59) with his former partner Susannah Boffey. He has children Kimberly (44) and Sean (43) with his ex-wife Alana Stewart. Daughter Ruby (36) comes from her relationship with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, while her marriage to ex-wife Rachel Hunter resulted in children Renee (31) and Liam (29). With his current wife Penny Lancaster, he has sons Alastair (17) and Aiden (12).

In the interview, Stewart also revealed that his parents, despite their strictness, supported him in his dream of becoming a musician. “They were extremely cooperative with me,” he recalls. His father bought him his first guitar. “I ask all parents out there who have children who want to make music to encourage them because everyone should have this opportunity.”
