The ’72 Olympics in Munich were supposed to present a new, cosmopolitan Germany to everyone 50 years ago – after the games under the Nazis 36 years earlier in Berlin. But on September 5, 1972, a group of Palestinian terrorists took eleven Israeli athletes hostage in the Olympic Village. A rescue attempt ended in chaos: all the hostages, a policeman and five terrorists died.

On Monday evening, the first showed a 90-minute film version of the four-part (4 episodes of 45 minutes each) ARD documentary series “Death and Games – Munich ’72” by Bence Máté and Lucio Mollica. 1.93 million people tuned in, which corresponded to a market share of 7.6 percent as of 8:15 p.m. The complete series can be seen on Wednesday (September 7th, 10.45 p.m.) on RBB and on September 7th and 14th with two episodes each on BR Fernsehen. It has also been in the ARD media library since August 26th.

Prime time winner on Monday was Günther Jauch: The two-hour RTL quiz show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” 3.70 million viewers (15.0 percent) watched from 8.15 p.m.

On ZDF, the first of three consecutive episodes of the six-part series “Liberame – After the Storm” saw an average of 2.53 million (10.2 percent). In episode two of the drama series from 9 p.m., 2.09 million (8.2 percent) remained, in episode three from 9:45 p.m. only 1.86 million (8.3 percent).

The crime series “Inspector Barnaby” on ZDFneo was followed by 2.16 million (8.6 percent). Next to ARD were the Vox founding show “Die Höhle der Löwen” (episode 2) with 1.92 million viewers (8.1 percent), the American action thriller “Eraser” with Arnold Schwarzenegger from 1996 on Kabel eins with 1, 02 million viewers (4.3 percent) and the Sat.1 docu-soap “The House by the Sea with Julia Leischik” (0.87 million/3.6 percent).

The prelude to the new RTLzwei docu-soap “The Kelly Family – The journey continues” had 0.79 million viewers (3.3 percent), the US action series “9-1-1 Notruf L.A.” at ProSieben 0.75 million (3.0 percent).
