There are quite a few dating shows on German TV. But the new format “Rate my Date” (from April 24, 8:15 p.m., Sat.1) seems to have that certain something that other shows don’t have to offer. The highlight of the format is that not only the candidates have to make decisions as usual – but also that their family and friends have a say. It is foreseeable that this will bring some interesting insights and dialogues.

Moderator Ralf Schmitz (48) sums up the basic principle of his new show as follows: “The special thing about ‘Rate my Date’ is that love always wins. The single chooses his best date in any case. But only if mom If you have the same opinion, it will work out with the dream trip together.”

At the beginning of each show, the task for friends and family is to distribute the ten date suitcases to the candidates presented. How your choice turns out remains hidden from the candidate. Each of these suitcases represents a travel destination where the later date could take place. According to the broadcaster, the value of these travel options is between 1 and 25,000 euros. In the pot is therefore everything between a “popsicle at the gas station” and a “dream vacation in the Seychelles”.

After each round of interviews, the unsuspecting single chooses a candidate who – with her date suitcase and thus the corresponding travel option – has to leave the show. Until the end, it remains exciting who will win the heart of the single and where the dating journey will ultimately lead.

The dating candidate in the first episode is the chef Alex (27) from Mannheim, who knows that his mother Mandy is behind him as an adviser in his search for the right date. In addition, his best friends take care of the initial distribution of the date suitcases to the candidates.

According to Sat.1, there are pyrotechnician Cherry, a biomedical student named Leyla, project manager Lina or office clerk Jana Isabell to choose from. As the broadcaster reveals, mother Mandy is sure from the start which candidate would be the best for her son. The episode will show whether she is right.

Ralf Schmitz has become the king of dating shows on German television over the past ten years. From 2013 to 2021 he moderated the successful format “Take me out” on RTL and then switched to Sat.1, where he currently already moderates the dating shows “Vollshot” and “Paar Love”. After the start of “Rate my Date”, the Rhenish improvisational talent will be juggling with three dome shows at the same time.

Schmitz learned his craft from scratch. After classical acting and dance training, he worked for several years in the ensemble of the improv theater “Die Springmaus” in Bonn and then turned to TV. For his role in the sketch comedy series “Die Dreisten Drei – Die Comedy-WG” he was voted “Newcomer of the Year” at the German Comedy Awards in 2003. In addition to other comedy formats such as “Schillerstraße” or “Hotel at home: Please disturb!” he also worked as an actor. For example, he embodied the dwarf Sunny in the “7 Dwarfs” comedies by Otto Waalkes.
