The Swedish royals line up for the big celebrations for the 50th anniversary of King Carl XVI’s throne. Gustaf on Friday and Saturday. As the newspaper “Expressen” reported on Thursday morning, Princess Madeleine (41) and her family arrived in Stockholm from the USA. Although Madeleine, her husband Chris O’Neill (49) and their three children spent most of their time in Sweden, the family flew back to their adopted home of the USA at the beginning of August.
The new school year began there for their offspring – Princess Leonora Lilian Maria (9), Prince Nicolas Paul Gustaf (8) and Princess Adrienne Josephine Alice (5). The plan was actually for the family of five to turn their backs on the USA this year and move back to Sweden. However, the move was postponed until next year. The reason for the delay is that they need more time for planning.
A spokeswoman told the paper that it was now a nice opportunity to take part in the celebrations together in Stockholm. It is a “unique and big anniversary”. Plans include a procession through Stockholm followed by a speech to the people and an anniversary concert with famous artists. There are also other concerts, banquets and receptions, some of them highly official, some of a private nature. On the evening before the throne anniversary, Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia (79) invite you to a private dinner in Drottningholm Palace. The anniversary day itself opens with a thanksgiving service and ends with a large banquet in the palace.
The celebratory parade through Stockholm will be shown live on Erste on September 16th from 2:15 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. A comprehensive review of the entire celebrations on the occasion of the Swedish throne jubilee will be available in a ZDF special broadcast in the evening (from 7:25 p.m.).
