Prince William (41) will award the annual Earthshot Prize in Singapore next month. Now the details of his trip to Asia have been announced.
Among other things, the Prince of Wales will take part in a dragon boat race, a popular local sport. A star-studded green carpet is also expected at the awards ceremony. The fight against the illegal trade in wild animals should also be on the agenda; William will promote his United for Wildlife campaign.
As previously reported, his wife, Princess Kate (41), will not accompany him on this trip. Instead, she will support their son, Prince George (10), with important exams.
Prince William has “a lot planned” for his multi-day trip, which begins on November 5th and ends on November 7th with the award ceremony. This is the third edition of the global search for solutions to the planet’s environmental problems. Last year the awards ceremony took place in Boston – Kate was there at the time. “The Prince is very much looking forward to being in Singapore,” his spokesman said at a briefing at Kensington Palace on Monday, quoted by People magazine.
After his arrival at Jewel Changi Airport, the British heir to the throne will go to the opening events. The ceremony is produced by Silverback, the producer of the famous animal welfare programs with Sir David Attenborough (97).
This year’s 15 finalists were selected from a record 1,100 nominations – an increase of 20 percent. Earthshot Prize Executive Director Hannah Jones said at the press conference: “Singapore is at the heart of the climate movement in Southeast Asia. The country is an example of how to harness technology, capital and human ingenuity to work together to solve the toughest environmental problems to work.”
