According to media reports, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65) had a sports accident on Saturday. First, the “Frankfurter Rundschau” reported about it.
The “Bild” newspaper quotes a government spokeswoman: “Unfortunately, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has to cancel his appointments in Hesse this Sunday after a minor sports accident.” He “fell while jogging and got bruises on his face. His appointments in the coming week are not affected”.
One of the plans for next Tuesday (September 5) is for the Federal Chancellor to take part in the opening event of the International Motor Show in Munich.
Olaf Scholz came to sport through his wife Britta Ernst (62), to whom he has been married since 1998. When he was around 40 years old, she told him that he had to do something and that he was “very grateful” to her for that, he once revealed during a “Brigitte live” performance. “I hated sports when I was at school, today I jog as often as possible,” Scholz writes about himself. “I try to take time for sports two or three times a week – jogging, rowing or hiking. We also drive like a bike.”
Olaf Scholz, who was born in Osnabrück and grew up with two brothers in Hamburg, only discovered rowing when he was over 50, as he said in the “Bunte” interview in August 2021. “Rowing a few laps on the Alster early in the morning and then driving to the town hall for the Senate session, that was nice back then,” says Scholz. From 2011 to 2018 he was the first mayor of Hamburg. In the meantime, Olaf Scholz and his wife Britta Ernst apparently use vacation time for hiking. The chancellor and his wife vacationed in the Allgäu, among other places.
