When they first met, Scierra Blair and José Ervin must have regularly joked about the fact that their birthdays are on the same day. How likely is it to find such a partner?
Blair and Ervin were both born on August 18th, although Ervin was born a year early. The 32-year-old and the 31-year-old are now engaged. But it is even less likely to have a child who is also born on this day. And even two?! Actually almost impossible. But that’s exactly what happened to the couple from the US state of Ohio. The pair have just become parents to twins – who were also born on August 18.
José Ervin III was born at 0.35 a.m., Ar’ria Lannette Ervin followed a minute later. So the twins were born at half past midnight – as if they had taken extra time to be born on this important day in the family. “You are my birthday present,” gushed mother Scierra Blair to the People portal. “I kiss her 30,000 times a day.”
With the twins, the couple will certainly face some challenges in the years to come. But at least the new parents don’t have to worry about forgetting their kids’ birthdays. So big parties on August 18 are inevitable. Blair and Ervin have only known each other for a year and Ervin couldn’t believe on the first date that his partner’s birthday is the same day. He even had her ID shown: “I thought she was telling me a fairy tale.” They then celebrated their first birthday together in a delivery room in Cleveland.
The probability that only one child has the same birthday as both parents is one in 133,000, a US hospital calculated last year on the occasion of such a case. In the case of twins, the probability is of course significantly lower.
