Exchange your lifetime for money: This should be possible in the near future – at least if you trust the developments in the new science fiction thriller “Paradise”.

Netflix has now released the first trailer for the German production, which celebrates its world premiere on June 24, 2023 at the Munich Film Festival.

“Paradise”, starring Kostja Ullmann and Iris Berben, is about the biotech start-up AEON, which has developed a method for transferring lifetimes from one person to another. It sounds innovative and exciting at first, but it has numerous pitfalls.

This is also the case with Max and Elena, a couple who – when they are unexpectedly confronted with insurance claims that they cannot settle – are asked to give up 38 years of life as a “time donation”. And they should come from Elena alone – because AEON CEO Sophie Theissen, played by Iris Berben, is targeting Elena’s lifetime.

The couple’s future together is at stake. Max, who works for the multimillion-dollar company, does everything from now on to get back the lost years of his wife and plans to kidnap Theissen for it. At the same time, he has no idea what he is triggering.

The first trailer that has now been released gives promising insights into the near-future thriller: “We can turn back the clock. So we will continue to research until age and death no longer determine us, but vice versa,” says the preview . It becomes cruel and morally evil.

Because if lifetime is arbitrarily transferrable and becomes the commodity and means of payment of the future, then it is clear which social class can afford immortality and eternal youth – and which cannot.

“Paradise” will be released on Netflix on July 27, 2023.
