The well-known US rapper Takeoff has been shot dead in the Texan city of Houston. Citing those close to the 28-year-old musician from Grammy-nominated group Migos, media reported that Takeoff was killed at a Houston bowling alley.

The police themselves spoke of one fatality belonging to the Migos group. The perpetrator or perpetrators were initially still at large.

Police are appealing for witnesses

According to an investigator, the fatal incident happened after a private party in the bowling alley building. “And after that ended, a large group of people gathered around the front door area just outside the building. And that led to an argument as to where the shooting took place.” Two firearms were used. The police appealed to the allegedly large number of witnesses to come forward in order to locate the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Apparently, the police are not blaming Takeoff for the cause of the dispute. “We have no reason to believe that he was involved in anything criminal,” said a spokesman. “The way he’s been described, he’s a very peaceful, loving, great entertainer.” Other backgrounds initially remained unclear.

Kirsnick Khari Ball – known by his stage name Takeoff – formed the Atlanta, Georgia group Migos with rappers Quavo and Offset. Quavo was there on Tuesday night, citing the police, according to the New York Times. Migos has enjoyed great success in the United States over the past decade or so, after hits like “Bando,” “Versace,” and “Hannah Montana,” which combined abrupt rap with catchy choruses.
