After a severe bacterial infection and a stay in intensive care, pop star Madonna is back home. The 64-year-old is doing better, the German press agency confirmed from her environment. Due to the illness, the singer had to postpone her world tour, her manager had previously announced.

The tour was supposed to start on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada. Then Madonna wanted to tour across the US and come to Europe in the fall, including Cologne on November 15th and 16th and Berlin on November 28th and 29th.

Full recovery expected

In a statement, manager Guy Oseary said Madonna is now on the mend but is still receiving medical treatment. A full recovery is expected. According to him, the pop star developed a severe bacterial infection on June 24, which led to “a stay in intensive care for several days”.

Fans of the “Queen of Pop” reacted with dismay and sent well wishes online – including several celebrities. Actress Rita Wilson (66) wrote under Oseary’s Instagram post: “Sending my prayers to Madonna for a speedy recovery”. Singer and actress Zooey Deschanel (43) wrote: “Hope she gets better soon!”. Director Xavier Dolan (34) and actresses Evan Rachel Wood (35), Julia Garner (29) and Gwendoline Christie (44) also commented.

The American gossip site “Page Six” wrote without further citing the source that Madonna was found unconscious in her New York apartment. She was intubated in a hospital for at least one night, daughter Lourdes Leon (26) had not left her mother’s side in the past few days.

“Celebration Tour” through 35 cities

Earlier this year, Madonna announced the worldwide “Celebration Tour” through 35 cities in North America and Europe. Her manager wrote: “We will provide you with further details as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for postponed shows.”

If concerts are postponed in Germany, the tickets remain valid and can be used on the new date. In such cases, the consumer advice center recommends that customers who do not want to use their ticket on the new date contact the place where they bought the ticket. However, there is still no information about the Madonna concerts.

As part of the concerts, the Grammy award winner wanted to present her greatest hits of the past 40 years, from her debut album “Madonna” (1983) to her 2019 album “Madame X”. Her 65th birthday – on August 16th – was in the middle of the tour. In the last few weeks she has already shared photos from the rehearsals. “The calm before the storm,” she wrote in an Instagram post last week.

Several performances have already been canceled before

Born Madonna Louise Ciccone in 1958 in the US state of Michigan, the singer has gone through many image changes in her career, from “Material Girl” to “Madame X”. With hits like “Like a Prayer”, “Material Girl”, “Like a Virgin” or “Frozen” she celebrated worldwide success. The mother of six was also an actress in front of the camera (“Susan – desperately wanted”, “Evita”) and has already directed (“Filth and Wisdom”, “WE”).

On her last “Madame X” tour (2019 to 2020), Madonna canceled several performances due to health problems, sometimes at very short notice. Because of “injuries that have plagued me since the start of the tour”, the doctors advised her to rest for a few days, she wrote in January 2020 when canceling a planned show in London.
