The German U21 handball players are getting closer and closer to their dream of a medal at the home world championship. With 31:26 (17:11) the youth selection of the German Handball Association (DHB) defeated Denmark in Berlin and is in the semi-finals after the sovereign performance.

The best thrower was Nils Lichtlein with seven goals. Martin Heuberger’s team remained unbeaten in their sixth World Cup game and offered their best tournament game to date against the Scandinavians. The opponent in the semifinals on Saturday (6 p.m.) is Serbia, who beat the Faroe Islands 30:27 (17:12). The other semi-final (3.30 p.m.) will be played by Hungary and Iceland.

The DHB team got off to a great start, was 3-0 up early on and steadily expanded the lead in a very disciplined manner. The defense kept stopping the Danes from attacking position, while Germany played very variable in attack. David Späth in goal and playmaker Lichtlein in particular stood out from a strong team.

After the break, the German selection had to pay a little tribute to the high pace in the first round. Things didn’t go so well in attack, and there was often a lack of concentration. However, the defensive kept the lead high with a lot of passion. In addition, Späth defused important balls.
