The actor Jürgen Holtz is dead. He died on Sunday at the age of 87 years at the consequences of a cancer disease. The “Berliner Zeitung” reported citing the gallery Bernet Bertram, which had recently opened an exhibition about the actor.

Jürgen Holtz was on 10. August, born in 1932 in Berlin. At the beginning of the 1950-ies he studied in Leipzig and Weimar spectacle. Subsequently, he was employed in various East German theaters, including the Berliner Ensemble, and for the DEFA. In the 1980’s Holtz left East Germany and continued his career in West Germany.
Holtz also played in GDR-Comedy “Good Bye, Lenin!”
Later he acted in films such as the GDR-Comedy “Good Bye, Lenin!” (2003) directed by Wolfgang Becker as well as in the portrait film “Rosa Luxemburg” (1986) directed by Margarethe von Trotta with. He was known also for his portrayal of “Motzki” in the eponymous TV series, which was broadcast from 1993.
In the same year he was awarded for his portrayal of the Old in the Drama “cataract”, by Rainald Goetz, the Gertrud-Eysoldt-Ring. He also received the award for actor of the year by the magazine “Theater heute”. His last appearance was with Holtz last year, in “Galileo Galilei” by Bertolt Brecht at the Berliner Ensemble.
