On Saturday, May 6th, the time has finally come: Charles III. (74) and his wife Camilla (75) are crowned in Westminster Abbey. An event for which the British royal family has been preparing meticulously for months – and which is broadcast worldwide. German television stations have also announced live reports. Incidentally, the pioneer of the gigantic media spectacle was Charles’ mother: The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) on June 2, 1953 was the first coronation of a British monarch to be broadcast live on television. The first offers a live broadcast from 9:30 a.m. that will last more than five hours. Correspondent Annette Dittert (60) reports on the mood on site under the title “King Charles III. – The Coronation in London”. From 4 p.m. there will be a 45-minute version of the documentary “Charles – Fateful Years of a King” by Claire Walding. The private broadcaster RTL is planning a whole theme day. It starts at 4:35 a.m. with the first broadcast of the documentary series “The Real Crown: Love, Duty and Burden in the House of Windsor”. In “Exclusive Special: King at Last – Charles ascends the throne!” moderator Frauke Ludowig (59), designer Guido Maria Kretschmer (57) and aristocratic expert Michael Begasse (57) will report on the events in London for seven hours. The broadcast begins at 9 a.m. The cousin of King Charles, Eduard Prinz von Anhalt (81), Countess Stephanie von Pfuel (62) and moderator Mareile Höppner (45) will be guests in the special broadcast from the studio in Cologne. The correspondents Katharina Delling (33) and Ulrich Oppold (61) report live from London with classifications of the royal celebrations. Wigald Boning (56) will also be in the British capital. From 4 p.m. the documentary “King Charles III. – Between love and vocation” continues. In addition, the streaming portal RTL offers other programs related to the coronation and the royal family.
The private broadcaster Sat.1 starts the special day at 7:40 a.m. with a repeat of the documentary “Queen Elizabeth II – The Eternal Queen”, which was made for her 90th birthday in 2016. “This is the crowning glory!” it says then at 9:30 a.m. Presenter Marlene Lufen (52) speaks in the London studio about the events with Charlotte Countess of Oeynhausen and Heinrich Prince of Hanover (62), master of ceremonies Major William Hunt and singer Ross Antony (48).
