King Charles III (74) and King’s wife Camilla (75) have made the final stop of their three-day trip to Germany. Around noon they arrived in the Hanseatic city with an ICE train that started from Berlin and in the presence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (67) and his wife Elke Büdenbender (61). There the four of them first visited the monument “Kindertransport – The Last Farewell”, where the Queen Consort and Büdenbender laid down white roses together. The memorial commemorates the rescue of over 10,000 mostly Jewish children by Britain during World War II.
A little later, King Charles III. and Steinmeier at the St. Nikolai Halt church tower, both men laid a wreath of flowers there with Mayor Peter Tschentscher (57) in honor of the war victims. After air raids in 1943, only the almost 150 meter high tower remained of the once magnificent church, which has served as a memorial ever since.
On the subsequent way to Hamburg City Hall, Charles and Camilla once again demonstrated their closeness to the people, despite the bad weather. After a short greeting from the town hall balcony to the assembled royal fans, the royal couple finally signed the golden book of the city of Hamburg in a good mood.
As before in Berlin, the royal couple then split up: Charles boarded a ship with Federal President Steinmeier and Tschentscher for a harbor tour, while Camilla attended a primary school with Büdenbender. During the day there will be a reception at the invitation of the British Embassy before Charles and Camilla return to their British homeland.
