Rapper Kanye West is back on Twitter: For the first time in almost two years he has tweeted a photo of a black hat with the number “2024” on it.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk, who is currently trying to take over Twitter, immediately celebrated the return on Saturday: “Welcome back to Twitter my friend!” he tweeted. Most recently, West, who now calls himself Ye, posted on Twitter shortly after the last US presidential election.
According to media reports, the rapper was blocked from Instagram on Friday. West also posted a photo of Instagram and Facebook group Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg accusing him of “kicking” him off Instagram.
According to CNN, a meta spokesperson said content from West’s account had been deleted and a restriction imposed for violating company policies. However, it did not specify what was objectionable about the content or what type of restriction was imposed. West reportedly shared a now-deleted post that included a screenshot of a “text conversation” with rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs, which had been criticized as “anti-Jewish” by the American Jewish Committee.
Tweet: Hidden reference to candidacy?
In 2020, West ran for the office of US President himself. However, due to missed registration deadlines, he did not make it onto the ballot in most states. The rapper also expresses himself politically again and again. Kanye West was one of a handful of popular artists to publicly endorse former US President Donald Trump. West often causes a stir on his social media with bizarre messages.
Earlier this week, West sparked controversy for wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt at his Paris runway show. The anti-racism organization Anti-Defamation League classifies the sentence as a racist reaction to the “Black Lives Matter” movement, which campaigns against violence against black people.
