Today, January 31st, at 8:15 p.m., the first episode will show the 999th and then the 1000th episode of “All Friendship”. Fans of the hospital series, which was first broadcast in 1998, can not only celebrate this special anniversary. The MDR has announced that the long-term production should also show everyday life in the Sachsenklinik in at least two more seasons.
According to a press release, the MDR broadcasting council has approved an extension of the successful series by two seasons. The planned seasons 27 and 28 will therefore each contain 42 episodes. According to Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, up to five million viewers watch the hospital series every week. As a rule, the episodes can be seen on TV on Tuesdays from 9 p.m. on the first.
It is “very good news for millions of loyal fans” who like to experience “adventures and everyday life in the Sachsenklinik with the doctors, the nursing staff and the patients”, says MDR program director Klaus Brink Bäumer (56) in a statement.
It will be “dramatic and exciting” on Tuesday evening for the anniversary, the MDR promises. Beware, spoilers: Doctors are trying to save a boy’s life with a crossover liver transplant. There is also a wedding, a kidnapping and a tragic death. The series also looks back on the past 25 years.
The two “In aller Freundlich” episodes and a “Making of” for the anniversary can also be accessed in the ARD media library after the broadcast.
