US star Jamie Lee Curtis, Israeli actress Gal Gadot, US actress Amy Schumer and Israeli-American artist manager Guy Oseary were among the first celebrities to respond to Hamas’ land and air attacks on Israel early Saturday morning.
Gal Gadot, who has advocated for Israel in the past, posted a screenshot on Instagram of a message saying Israeli soldiers and civilians had been taken hostage by militants. In the caption, she wrote that “at least 250 Israelis have been murdered and dozens of women, children and the elderly held hostage in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian military group Hamas.”
She continued: “More than 3,000 rockets have been fired since early morning. Hamas is holding hostages and controlling bases and settlements in Israel. There have been more than 1,500 injured and heavy fighting is still ongoing. I hear their voices and they are pounding at the door. I’m with my two little children. My heart hurts.”
In another post she wrote: “I stand with Israel.”
In his own lengthy post about Israel, longtime executive Guy Oseary wrote that Hamas urges anyone with a weapon to get it out and use it because “the best and most honorable history begins today.” He shared a video of a young woman named Noa who was at a music festival when she was shot and kidnapped.
“This is horrific… these murders are being celebrated by the government/regime in Iran,” he wrote in the caption. “Many women, children and elderly people are taken from their homes and kidnapped. I have always prayed for peace. ALWAYS. I have always stood up for my Jewish community, and I have also stood up for my Arab brothers and sisters. Today I have no words. Only heartbreak. Only tears.”
Jamie Lee Curtis and Amy Schumer reposted Oseary’s post and added their own words. “My hands in yours,” Curtis wrote. She also posted a picture of frightened children with the caption: “Terror sky.”
Schumer wrote under Oseary’s caption: “Jewish people are the only group not allowed to defend themselves. This has nothing to do with the occupation. Hamas doesn’t want an end to the occupation. They want to wipe out Israel. They are funded by Iran, which is trying to destroy the peace agreement.” Jewish comedian Sarah Silverman wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that she herself had family who were at the festival in southern Israel. “My sister and my nieces and nephews are there. They have been protesting against Bibi [Benjamin Netanyahu] for months. Fighting for a two-state solution. Israelis are Jews and Arabs and all colors. The issue is so complex. But make no mistake: Hamas is a terrorist organization whose mission is to kill all Jews. This damn world breaks my heart,” she wrote.
Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli also shared countless stories about the attack, including pictures of missing Israelis. Kylie Jenner, on the other hand, shared a statement of solidarity on her Instagram story, which she deleted a short time later. It’s not just in Hollywood that celebrities are speaking out. The Israeli ESC singer Noa Kirel also took a stand on Instagram. “The last 24 hours have been extremely difficult for me to digest and I am still trying to find the right words to express the immeasurable pain that I and my country are going through,” said Kirel. “My heart aches for the victims and families affected by this devastating massacre. My thoughts are with you and I pray for the speedy return of our brothers and sisters home,” she wrote.
Her boyfriend, Bayern goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, also commented on Instagram. “My heart goes out to the whole people. Stay strong and take care of yourselves. We will get over this too,” said Peretz.
