Surprise for millions of viewers of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” The RTL quiz show ended unscheduled on Monday evening at around 10:15 p.m. instead of 11:20 p.m. as planned. Instead of the usual interruption by the news program “RTL Direkt”, live reporting from the American football league NFL and sports presenter Jana Wosnitza suddenly flickered across the screens, without Günther Jauch returning with his successful format.

The reason for this lies thousands of kilometers away from Germany. The Cologne station normally shows the NFL regularly on Sunday evenings. However, because the playoff game between the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to the snowstorm in the western United States, RTL had to reschedule at short notice – and decided to only show the first part of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” to show the recording on television. “Spiegel TV” and the “Nachtjournal” were also to fall victim to the short-term program change. The broadcast of “Spiegel TV” will be rescheduled for Tuesday at 11:20 p.m.

Viewers occasionally expressed criticism of the decision on social networks. The second part of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” However, it can be seen free of charge and without advertising on the streaming platform RTL.

The classic show has been running on RTL since 1999 and is one of the most popular television programs in the country. You can see a look back at spectacular moments here:
