A video of the popular actress Uschi Glas is currently circulating on Facebook in which she talks about alleged health problems. What many people don’t suspect at first glance, however, is that it is not the actress herself, known from “Winnetou” and “Fack ju Göhte”, who speaks in the video, but rather a version of the actress created by artificial intelligence (AI).
“My name is Uschi Glas and I have had knee problems for 20 years. At the age of 45 I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and living with it causes me constant pain,” the AI-generated version of the actress admits in the approximately three and a half minute long video hear.
The actress’s words seem deceptively real: “When I heard myself talking in the video, I got goosebumps,” the real Glas told the “Bild” newspaper. Only those who know her well “can tell the difference to the real Uschi. I feel abused.” Glas himself was shocked “by this AI fake that is driven by my name and my voice.”
Glas only became aware of the video through a fan: “I became suspicious when a lady wrote to me and wanted to know if this had really helped me, then she would like to try it out. That’s exactly what I want to prevent. that other people fall for the scam and think that if it helped Uschi Glas, then it will help me too.”
In an interview with the tabloid, the actress clarified that she has not suffered from knee problems “for 20 years” and is “healthy.” The incident showed the 80-year-old the limitless possibilities of artificial intelligence: “It really scares me when I think about what is possible with AI.” The actress is already checking how she can take legal action against the AI video.
