For many Germans, this NBA star is the hero of the year 2023: In a representative survey by the Norstat opinion research institute on behalf of the magazine “Playboy”, national basketball team captain Dennis Schröder (30) was voted “Man of the Year 2023”. 19 percent of the women and men surveyed nationwide voted for the 30-year-old athlete, who brought home the first Basketball World Cup title with his team in September.
Schröder was the best scorer in the World Cup final against Serbia with 28 points and was subsequently named the most valuable player of the entire tournament. In the US professional basketball league NBA, the athlete from Braunschweig plays as a point guard for the Canadian Toronto Raptors.
Second place in the ranking is shared by Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (54) from the Greens, as well as Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (63) from the SPD and actor Matthias Schweighöfer (42), each with ten percent. Football official Rudi Völler (63), DFB coach Julian Nagelsmann (36) and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (56) follow in third to fifth place.
According to the survey, Nagelsmann, Habeck and Chancellor Olaf Scholz (65) will have the most impact on 2024. However, the two politicians who were the most annoying in 2023 also lead the ranking – followed by Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (60) and AfD leader Tino Chrupalla (48).
