the Minister of justice will send more voldsdømte in prison, but there is no room for them, warns the confederation.

The Danish prisons overflowing with inmates. The capacity utilization is above 100 percent, even if the limit is at 96 percent, and Counselors can’t keep up with the need for more prison guards and prison cells.

Nevertheless presented justice minister Nick Hækkerup (S) in October a bill that will give more unconditional prison and less community service in cases of simple and aggravated assault.

The new bill, supported by the Left and thus have a majority, will, according to the Probation send 28 more offender in prison. It corresponds to a space requirement of 29 seats, it appears in a folketingssvar from the prison and Probation service and the ministry of Justice from november.

It is an additional pressure on the prisons, that already are in the knees, explains Bo Provide Sørensen, who is the chairman of the trade union Fængselsforbundet.

– The 28 extra prisoners makes it just worse, but we are already pressed.

– There is a need for capacity and prison officers for doing the Probation. Currently, the machine can not run by itself. The 28 additional inmates will make it worse, but deneme bonusu veren siteler it is not it, that do, missed the boat sinks or not. We are past the point where the wheels can turn around, ” says Bo Yde Sørensen.

He says, that prisons in general must be creative in order to create space. He recounts kosteskabsrum, that gets transformed into prison cells and workshops, there will be dorms.

In 2020, with the legal change in the average sit 4090 prisoners in the Danish prisons, inform the prison and Probation service and the ministry of Justice in a folketingssvar from October.

Probation trying to keep up with the development to build 200 new seats in 2020, but it will only bring the total capacity up to 4075 seats.

In the same folketingssvar write Probation, that “there is still a lack of prison officers across the country, the commissioning of the new seats for the time being particularly challenging”.

Justice minister Nick Hækkerup (S) acknowledges overbelægningen in prisons. He rejects, however, to adjust his bill.

– It is clear to everyone that the Probation is a hard time of it, and that there is a pressure on the number of seats in the country’s prisons. It does not, however, know that I believe that criminals who have committed the violence, more often should be in prison rather than being sentenced to community service, says Nick Hækkerup in a written response.

He refers to, that the bill follows the 9.2 million in 2020 and 11 million dollars in 2021 and above.

A prison cell costs, however, 680.000 euros a year, in addition to the cost of building the cell, according to The Crime prevention Council. Thus costing the 29 new prison places over 19 million dollars per year in operation.

4075 prison places by 2020 is not enough, evaluate the Stay Provide Sørensen.

– It is an oversimplification of things, that the 4075 is the right number of seats. It is significantly too low, he says.
