Hailey Bieber shared Alec Baldwin’s news of the death of his mother on Instagram with the caption, “We love Grandma,”

Carol M. Baldwin, mother to actor Alec Baldwin, has passed away. She was 92.

Alec shared a vintage image of his mother and a newer one on Instagram, announcing her death. He captioned, “Carol M. Baldwin,” which he said was the mother of actors Alec and Daniel, William, and Stephen Baldwin as well as two daughters, Elizabeth, and Jane.

He continued to write about Carol’s life and wrote, “Born Carol Newcomb Martineau in Syracuse, December 15, 1929. She was the daughter of Roy and Marion Martineau. She had one brother, Daniel and five sisters: Patricia, Joan and Diane. Louise and Rebecca were her siblings.”

According to him, she met Alexander R. Baldwin Jr. while attending Syracuse University. He was a history teacher, riflery and football coach at Massapequa High school while he lived on Long Island with his family. The actor wrote that he died at 55 in 1983.

Alec wrote that Carol Baldwin was the mother of her children. She then went on to work as a marketing researcher for Quick Test. The company operates out of a local shopping center. “She was diagnosed with breast carcinoma in 1991. She survived and joined a group of Long Island-wide support groups for breast cancer to start a campaign with SUNY Saintony Brook.

Carol later teamed up with Shirley Strum Kenny (the school’s president at that time) to create the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund in Stony Brook. This was then followed by a branch at SUNY Upstate University. The 64-year old star wrote that the combined efforts had raised millions of dollars for this cause.

Alec wrote, “My mother taught us about second acts.” There were third acts, too. She dedicated her last 25 years to the cause she loved and was a fighter and champion. Her accomplishments are something we all admire greatly.

Carol is survived her six children, 25 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. We will share details of a memorial at a later date.
