A new teaser for the 60th anniversary of “Doctor Who” has been released. The exactly one-minute video for the special of the BBC series includes David Tennant (51) in the role of “Doctor”, Neil Patrick Harris (49) as the villain and Ncuti Gatwa (30), who is the 15th incarnation of the time travellers.
Another comeback in the series is celebrated by Catherine Tate (53), who as Donna Noble is probably the center of the action. In the trailer, Tennant says, “I don’t believe in fate, but if it exists, then it’s up to Donna Noble.” And further: “If she remembers me, then she will die.” Noble doesn’t really seem to remember him, though, only having a hunch that she had “something wonderful” that’s “gone” now.
A host of insect-like aliens also appear in the short teaser, engaging in firefights with laser cannons on the streets of London. They appear to be in cahoots with Neil Patrick Harris, who calls it a “world premiere” and says, “The show has only just begun.” The “How I Met Your Mother” star appears as an eccentric self-promoter with long golden hair or with a black hat and suit.
At the very end you see Ncuti Gatwa asking, “Can someone explain to me what the hell is going on here?” The 30-year-old wears a thin mustache and a loose dark tie with a white shirt.
As of May 8th, it’s official that Ncuti Gatwa has become the first black actor to take on the role of “Time Lord” in the BBC series “Doctor Who”. Most recently, there were first pictures of the “Sex Education” star in his new outfit on Twitter. Millie Gibson (18) can also be seen in the photos, who will play his companion Ruby Sunday in the BBC series. Gatwa succeeds Jodie Whitaker (40), who played the first female “doctor”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 14 began filming in November 2022, suggesting a 2024 release. The fans will probably get a first taste of Gatwa as a time traveler in the anniversary special. For Tennant, the special is only a brief comeback, he had already embodied the ninth incarnation of the series character.
