It has been almost six years since the last episode of the extremely popular crime series “Sherlock” flickered across the British BBC screens. Since the previous series finale “The Last Problem” on January 15, 2017, viewers and fans have wanted Benedict Cumberbatch (46) and Martin Freeman (51) to return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. watson Steven Moffat (61), the co-creator of “Sherlock”, has now again confirmed that he would continue the series immediately. According to Deadline, Moffat stated that he would “begin writing” new episodes “tomorrow” when stars Cumberbatch and Freeman are ready to return to their iconic roles.

However, the biggest obstacle to continuing the crime and mystery series seems to be the huge success and the associated full shooting schedule of the two main actors Cumberbatch and Freeman. Back in April 2022, “Sherlock” creator Moffat stressed that the two stars “were very loyal to the show for a long period of time when [‘Sherlock’] definitely became her lowest-paid job.” And Moffat’s new statements regarding the future of the show also go in this direction. “They’re doing bigger and better things, but Martin and Benedict, please come back,” the series creator said jokingly. Unfortunately, that doesn’t sound like an imminent continuation of the successful series about master detective Sherlock Holmes.
