Recklinghausen/Los Angeles – actor Ralf Moeller (64, “Gladiator”), child of the Ruhr area, can no longer remember his last currywurst. “I’ve left out the currywurst for a long time. I don’t even know when I ate my last,” said Moeller of the German Press Agency. “It must have been ages ago.”

However, the 64-year-old pointed out that he had already plastered something else: a vegan currywurst. “There is everything. There are even vegan white sausages,” he reported.

Moeller comes from Recklinghausen – actually Currywurst heartland – and was once a swimming champion and bodybuilder. But he is best known for his role as the Germanic swordsman Hagen in the epic blockbuster “Gladiator” (2000). Together with chef Timo Franke he has now published a cookbook. In it he reports on his vegan diet and presents recipes.

“Of course vegans are better lovers”

In 2018, he began to eat increasingly vegan, said Moeller. Today he might eat some sushi or an egg – but he’s 80 percent vegan. “A lot of people ask me: Where can I get my proteins without meat?” he reported. His answer was: “The gorilla, the elephant and Ralf Moeller are the strongest animals – and they eat plants.”

The 64-year-old believes that the changed diet will have far-reaching effects. For example, with the smells that arise when you go to the toilet. “Then you definitely don’t have that smell of decay anymore,” said Moeller. “It’s a lot more comfortable.” He is also certain: “Of course vegans are the better lovers. If I fill my stomach, then not much happens anymore. It’s clear.”
