The stories of the British royal family seem to be far from being told. This is proven by the new biography “Charles III. New King. New Court. The Inside Story” by author Robert Hardman. The writer interviewed palace employees, friends and acquaintances and tells in his latest book what some recent moments were really like. Especially when it comes to Prince Harry, some stories don’t seem to be entirely true. These five are the most powerful revelations in the book.
Why Kate didn’t travel to the Queen’s deathbed in BalmoralThe royal dropout Prince Harry wrote in his memoirs “Spare”, published in 2023, that not only his wife Meghan was not wanted in the last hours of the late Queen Elizabeth II, but also his sister-in-law Kate . Surprising, because Kate always maintained a close and long-term relationship with her husband’s late grandmother, Prince William. The author Hardman refuted this claim: Kate herself had decided not to come. For the benefit of the three children, she is said to have stayed at Windsor Castle and prepared the kids for the upcoming start of school. But the king’s attempts were in vain – the prince had his cell phone in airplane mode. So it turned out that after landing he actually read the news on the BBC news portal.
Heir to the throne among themselves In the first hours after the death of the monarch of the century and thus Charles’ first hours as king, he decided to sit down and discuss things with his son Prince William. The book states: “That evening the couple, Charles and Camilla, were joined to dinner by the new Prince of Wales, who was also staying at Birkhall. The King had to have important but discreet conversations with his elder son.” It is also said that Harry would have been invited to such a meeting in the past – before he revealed about his family. The book says: “But not anymore. This was clearly no reason to reveal one’s feelings and thoughts in front of Prince Harry, especially when he could still be taking notes for his upcoming memoirs. Charles needed a clear head and no distractions.”
The “Fab Four” – reunited images that went around the world. Prince William and his little brother Harry with their wives, Kate and Meghan, reunited in mourning. Before Harry and Meghan’s exit from royal life, they, William and Kate were called the “Fab Four”. After the Queen’s death, they performed together again in front of Windsor Castle. The waiting crowd was said to have been “astonished,” according to Hardman’s book. The couple’s dispute had long been public knowledge. But mourning for the Queen made this moment possible. Prince William is said to have decided to invite his brother and his wife. A royal adviser now reveals in the new book: “It was William’s idea. He organized it in about two hours.
