If there is a practical fashion must-have in summer, it is definitely sandals: you can slip into the airy shoes quickly and easily – and they often also provide a fashionable eye-catcher. But which sandal trends will there be in 2023? We present three trendy models and have styling tips ready.

Boring toe separators and flip-flops are no longer popular this year. Instead, it can be “chunky” – as with sneakers or (ankle) boots. That means: toe separators are no longer just one color or come with narrow straps and particularly flat soles. Instead, they can be a bit chunkier: with coarser, wider straps, thicker soles and contrasts or prints. This makes the otherwise rather reserved kicks an eye-catcher. You can combine the chunky sandals (or “Dad” or “Ugly” sandals) with jeans and a shirt as well as a straw or raffia bag for a cool summer look. But the shoes also go perfectly with jumpsuits or simple dresses.

While filigree sandals with lacing or tying were the trend in previous years, things are becoming more practical this summer: Velcro models are the fashionable choice. Like the chunky version, they are a bit cooler and bulkier, but they fit perfectly into this year’s fashion trends. And they are super practical too. They either go well with a casual outfit consisting of mom jeans and a T-shirt or top, or with a casual summer dress. The casual sandals can also be easily combined with shorts and a shirt or with a one-piece suit.

Matching the fashion trends, the sandal trends are one thing above all else: comfortable. Complicated lacing, unflattering heels or uncomfortable materials are out this year. Instead, comfortable materials and an ergonomically shaped footbed, such as those found in Birkenstocks, are popular. Practical and fashionable are not mutually exclusive.

Models with platform heels in a raffia look or with a strong contrast are also trendy this summer. Braided sandals, mules or mules in an elegant leather look or square sandals are also a good choice in 2023 to shine fashionably.
